Scotland the Beautiful

Ende April das Erste Mal in Schottland gewesen und sofort verliebt. In all die Städte, die wir besucht haben, all die Menschen, die uns begegnet sind, in all das gute Pub-Essen, die zahlreichen Whisky-Destillerien und die Landschaften, die aussehen, als ob gleich Hobbits und Zwerge um den nächsten Felsen geschlichen kommen. Es sieht kitschig dort aus, überall, sehr kitschig. Wenn nicht alle Jahreszeiten jeden Tag eintreffen würden, könnte man meinen, es sei nicht so ganz real, das ganze Land. Für Schottland-Reisende haben wir zwei gute Tipps: Eine gute Regenjacke und einen Mietwagen. Und ein Lächeln. Das tragen dort anscheinend alle gern.

Went to Scotland in April for the first time and fell in love instantly. With all the cities we visited, the people we met, all the good pub food, the numerous whisky distilleries and all the different sceneries that look like hobbits and dwarfs live there. It looks kitschy there, everywhere, very kitschy. You would think yourself in a dream were it not for every season having its share every day. For visitors of Scotland we have two tips: Get a really good rain

coat and a rental car. And smile. Everyone seems to be doing it there. 

Everything is going to be alright: Die Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh trägt ein schönes Versprechen. Ein nötiges, findet Nate, nachdem er geschockt war von soviel schlechten Penis-Zeichnungen an den Wänden. Ich war an meine phallische Phase erinnert und konnte das Ganze nicht ernst nehmen.

Ich hatte erwartet, die Highlands bestünden aus dunklen, rauen Felsen. Als ich stattdessen das hier sah, war ich überrascht, überwältig und überglücklich.

Somehow I thought the Highlands would be dark and rough. When I saw this instead I was surprised, overwhelmed and quite over the moon.
