The Boxes You Keep Your Jewelry in? They Can Tell a lot about You!

Erinnert ihr euch an meinen Artikel zu modernen Altären? Ich hatte Leser gebeten, mir Bilder ihrer Altäre zu schicken. Silke, eine meiner besten Freundinnen, hat mir Bilder Ihrer Dosensammlung geschickt, in denen sie ihre (riesige) Schmucksammlung aufbewahrt.

Remeber my post on modern altars? I had asked readers to send in pictures of their altars. Silke, one of my best friends, sent me her collection of boxes in which she keeps her (vast) jewelry collection.

Ich liebe die Geschichten hinter dieser Sammlung. Manche Kästchen sind Fundstücke, andere repräsentieren ihre Familie und ihre Freundschaften. Beide existieren friedlich nebeneinander. Silke ist Erzieherin und eines der Kinder brachte ihr die runde schwarze Dose aus dem Thailandurlaub mit. Auf Silkes Dank meinte das Kind nur: "Och, hat nur 1 Euro 50 gekostet!"Silkes Alltag ist voll von kindlicher Offenheit. Die Zigarrenbox daneben hat Silke aus dem Sperrmüll gerettet. Die rot-schwarze Box hat sie vom Markt der mexikanischen Silberstadt Taxco mitgebracht. Als Halb-Mexikanerin hat Silke eine schöne Sammlung an mexikanische Kunstgegenständen. So auch den Frida Kahlo Anhänger in der Mitte des Bildes und die kleine Runde Porzellandose, die ihre Tante handbemalt hat. Die Holzschatulle mit weißem Leder ist ein Geschenk von mir. Darin habe ich meinen Verlobungsring bekommen. Mein Mann und ich hatten die Schachtel doppelt, da unsere Eheringe von der selben Goldschmiedin gefertigt wurden. Da ich wusste, wie sehr meine Freundin die Schachtel liebte schenkte ich sie ihr, mit einem kleinen Herz aus Papier darin. Ich konnte nur hoffen, dass sie verstand wie viel mir diese Geste bedeutete. Zum Glück tat sie es. Die halbrunde Geldbörse hatte Silke als Geschenk gekauft, mochte sie dann aber zu sehr um sie wegzugeben. Ich muss ja zugeben, ich kenne das. Die Teebox und die kleine Zigarrenschachtel aus Metall wurden auch vor dem Mülleimer gerettet. Ganz schön wilde Mischung aus sehr bedeutend und zufällig gefunden, nicht wahr?

I love how every box has its story. Some are finds and some are representatives of her family and her friendships. Both kinds live happily next to each other. Silke works at a kindergarten and one of the kids brought her the little black box from Thailand. When Silke thanked the little guy he just replied: "Don't worry, it was just a few bucks." Silke's days are full of the kids' candidness. The cigar box next to it was rescued from a pile of old things by the road side waiting for the garbage collection. The red and black box Silke brought home from the market in Mexico's silver city Taxco. Being half Mexican you will find quite a lot of artisan items in Silke's home, like the Frida Kahlo necklace in the middle of the picture. And the little round porcelain box her aunt has hand-painted. The wooden box with white leather was a gift from me. I got my engagement ring in it. My husband and I had the box twice as our wedding bands came from the same goldsmith. Knowing how much my friend loved the box I gave it to her as a gift with a little paper heart inside. I could only hope she would understand how much that meant to me. And luckily she did. The red coin purse was originally purchased to be a gift. But then she liked it too much to give it away. I have to admit I know situations like these. The tea box and the little cigar box of tin were saved from the dumpster. Wild mix of meaningful and accidental, eh?

Dieses Bild hat Silke von ihrem besten Freund Thomas geschenkt bekommen. Das Wort Freundschaft ist mit Bildern der beiden unterlegt. Die anderen Begriffe drum herum beschreiben ihre Freundschaft. Persönlicher geht ein Geschenk wohl kaum. Und genau das macht es für Silke zum Teil ihres Altars. Mann muss wissen: Silke sind ihre Freunde extrem wichtig. Bist du ihr Freund, stehst du ganz oben auf der Prioritätenliste. Schön, dass wir Freunde sind.

This picture is a gift from Silke's best friend Thomas. Under the word Freundschaft (friendship in German) he laid pictures of the two. The other words describe their friendship. Now that is one personal gift! That is exactly what makes it part of her altar. You must know there is hardly anything more important to Silke than her friend. If you are here friend you are a priority. I'm happy to be her friend.
