New Year New Home Part 4

Die Diele. Sie liefert den ersten Eindruck eines Zuhauses. Sie heißt uns und unsere Gäste willkommen, nimmt uns den Mantel und die Schlüssel ab - und wird meist vernachlässigt. Die Ablage wird mit Post und Werbeprospekten zugemüllt, Schuhe liegen kreuz und quer am Boden oder auf hässlichen Schuhregalen und es hängen immer mehr Jacken da als wirklich getragen werden könnten. Bitte verzeiht, wenn ich hier fälschlicherweise von mir auf andere schließe. Dieses Jahr möchte ich unsere Diele neu gestalten und sie dabei wie ein normales Zimmer behandeln. Sie soll gute Laune machen beim Heimkommen und nicht nur ein funktionaler Durchgangsort sein (Funktionale Räume in Zimmer umzuwandeln ist offenbar mein Grundmodus zur Zeit). Die Idee kam, als Nate vorschlug, unseren Sekretär vom Wohnzimmer in den Flur zu stellen. Damit hätten wir keine typische Garderobenablage, sondern ein echtes Möbelstück dort stehen. Ich mag die Idee. Gleichzeitig überlege ich, ob andere Wand- oder Deckenfarben als weiß nicht auch schöner wären. 

The entryway. It gives the first impression of a home. It welcomes us and our guests. Takes our coats and keys - and is mostly neglected. We cram it with our mail and all those ad brochures, leave our shoes all over the floor or stack them in ugly shoe racks and of course there are always more coats on the hooks than we could ever wear. Please excuse me if I wrongly assume you are no better than me.This year I would like to restyle our entryway and treat it like any other room. It should get us into a good mood when we come home and be more than just a functional space (turning functional spaces into real rooms seems to be my thing right now, huh?). I got the idea when Nate suggested to transfer our bureau from the living room to the entry hall. That way we'd have a very nice storage there instead of typical entryway furniture. I like the idea. Maybe changing the color of the walls or the ceiling would be a good idea, too.

Nun zu den Jacken und Mänteln. Ihr Anblick ist unschön. Da kein Schrank in unseren Flur passt, überlege ich gerade, ob ich das Problem nicht mit einem Türhaken an der Eingangstür lösen kann. Dann sieht man die Haken gar nicht beim Hereinkommen. Hier habe ich aber noch ein paar andere schöne Ideen gesammelt, die nicht nach der langweiligen Hakenstange aussehen.

Now to jackets and coats. I don't like to see them. As no wardrobe fits into our entryway I think of hiding the coat hooks on the back of our front door. That way the hooks would be invisible when we enter the home. Below I collected some other nice ideas that don't look a bit like those boring coat racks.

Shuhregale und Schuhschränke mag ich auch nicht. Sie sehen immer gleich aus. Und kommen im Set mit Spiegel und Kleiderhaken. Ich möchte eine schöne Lösung. Eine Vitrine wäre natürlich Luxus. Aber Weinkisten selbst bemalen? Günstig und schön. Ich muss mal mit meinem Mann reden...

Another thing I don't like are shoe racks and shoe cabinets. I feel like they all look basically the same. Most times they come in a set with a mirror and a coat rack. I would like to have a beautiful solution. Of course a display cabinet would be over the top. But those painted wine crates? They are cheap and pretty. I think I will have to talk to my husband...
